ICT conference 2018 and the ELG – the European Language Grid project*

The Managing Director of SAIL LABS Technology Christoph Prinz and the Head of Research Gerhard Backfried participated in a special-session at the Imagine Digital – Connect Europe (ICT): Conference, Exhibition & Networking that took place this week in Vienna.

The ICT conference 2018 edition took place from the 4th to the 6th of December and was organised by the European Commission and the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

This year´s edition featured hot topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Next Generation Internet, Digital Skills and High-Performance Computing. Speakers from policy circles, academia, civil society and industry highlighted their perspectives and discussed how each can contribute to the successful digital transformation of Europe.

An upcoming H2020-project called ELG – the European Language Grid* – was presented at a special session by Jan Hajic (Charles University, Prague), Christoph and Gerhard. The session titled “Where Multilingualism, Big Data and AI meet: Language Technologies for the NGI” received broad attention and is expected to have a profound impact in the European Speech and Natural Language Processing landscape.
